TRIC Awards: All You Need To Know.

The Television and Radio Industries Club Awards took place yesterday, 27th June 2023, for the 92nd year and there were some controversial winners. A lot of Awards fell into the hands of people indisputably deserving, but others have raised eyebrows among the public and the crowds at the Award show.

The late and great Paul O’Grady was awarded the status of Best Factual Show for his ‘For the Love of Dogs’ series – a nationally loved show that beat out others such as The Martin Lewis Money Show. The comedian and TV presenter passed unexpectedly back in April 2023 and the love for his show was tenfold as fans lined the streets with their 4 legged friends honouring the star.

The Soap Awards are arguably the biggest prizes of the night. Danielle Harold, Eastenders Star, took home the prize for ‘Soap Star’ for her role of Lola Pearce-Brown. The actress emotionally and incredibly depicted a heartbreaking Cancer story in the soap this past year that came to a tear-jerking conclusion in May as the 26-year-old character lost her life. However, Emmerdale snatched up the prize for ‘Soap of The Year’ beating Coronation Street and Eastenders, who took home the Best British Soap Award at the British Soap Awards earlier this month.

Away from the screen, the Radio Awards saw ex-footballer Peter Crouch win Best Podcast and Roman Kemp take Best Radio Personality. Julia Hartley Brewer won the Best Radio Programme beating Roman Kemp, James O’Brien and Kate Garraway.

The interview of the year went to Piers Morgan Uncensored for the controversial interview of Cristiano Ronaldo – the interview that led to the Football Star departing from Manchester United. GB News won Best Breakfast News show beating ITV news, Channel 4 News, TalkTV,  and even Good Morning Britain who later bagged the Special Award. One of the most controversial award went to Nigel Farage who won Best News Presenter for his role on GB News. The former politician was met by audible boos and heckles as he accepted his trophy. He beat fellow GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes, TalkTv host Piers Morgan, and GMB’s Susanna Reid.
